What is this game about?
Imaginarium is a beautiful, bright and juicy association game. Here, you’ll need all your imagination and empathy to get the words right and guess what others thought. The rules of the game are extremely simple and can be mastered in a few minutes. Each player takes several cards with large unusual illustrations, then one of them, the leader, names the association and lays out a suitable card face down. The rest of the players find similar images in their cards and also lay out their cards on the table face-down. Then all the cards are showed, and the players try to guess whose card is where. If the presenter’s card is guessed by everyone or no one guesses it, he is penalized, but if only a few participants guessed it, then he receives victory points. Depending on the result of the selection, other participants also receive points, and at the end of the game, the one who scored the maximum points is declared the winner.
What awaits us inside?
The game captivates with its simplicity: there is no text on the maps, no explanations, only a full-fledged illustration. At the same time, it should be taken into account that the creativity of the artists was not only not restrained, but encouraged in every possible way by the authors of the game, and therefore at the end we have a very eccentric set of illustrations and images. You don’t need luck, sleight of hand, or reaction speed – just good associative thinking and an understanding of the psychology of your friends. Depending on the number of games played, it is easy to see how players move from simple associations like “escape” or “dawn” to complex constructions and outright provocations such as “Engineer Garin’s hyperboloid”. The cards are published on a good, high-quality basis, and cute details like flying elephants (chips that denote victory points) emphasize that the game was made by people who were not indifferent to their work.
Who is this game for?
Imaginarium can be played by a group of 4 to 7 cheerful and observant people, regardless of gender and age. It is suitable both for a company of unfamiliar people, where you can get to know everyone better and establish communication, and for a circle of old friends, in which immersion in the world of thoughts and internal, personal experiences will be an impetus for an even closer emotional connection. “Imaginarium” is an ideal game for communication: you can buy it for yourself and play in the family circle, you can give it to a typical creative friend, you can bring it with you to a meeting or holiday and invite everyone to guess cards with illustrations. One way or another, no one will leave offended, since the sports, competitive part of the game is very conditional – the impressions will remain with you forever, and soon you will want to shuffle the deck again and play again.
Who created this game?
Sergey Kuznetsov, one of the co-founders of Stupid Casual, was inspired by the French bestseller Dixit and at first simply printed additions from beautiful pictures created by fans of the game. Then he decided to go further and publish his own, original version with updated rules and independent illustrations by Russian authors. It turned out so well that a whole series of add-ons have already been published for the game, game libraries and even tournaments are regularly held. Try playing Imaginarium too!
